Robert (Bob) Tchegus
Robert (Bob) Tchegus is a Partner responsible for our firm’s Real Estate Law Group and also practises in the Land Use Planning, Development and Environmental Law Group. He has been designated by the Law Society of Ontario as a Certified Specialist in Real Estate Law since 2004.
Bob restricts his practice primarily to real estate issues.
Bob’s clients include first-time home buyers, buyers, sellers, builders, developers, partnerships, limited partnerships, corporations, trusts, joint ventures, religious organizations, public and private financial institutions, municipalities and other governments and agencies requiring transactional, planning and development, assistance or expert legal opinions involving real estate law. Bob was provincially appointed as a Part Time Member of the Assessment Review Board of Environment and Land Tribunals Ontario from 2006-2016, extending his knowledge base to real property assessment and taxation issues. From 2010 to 2016 he was federally appointed as a Part Time Member of the Payments in Lieu of Taxes Dispute Advisory Panel.
Bob graduated from Queen’s University’s Law School and after some time with the Legal Department of the City of Kingston, joined our firm in 1987. He has taught property law for the LSO Bar Admission Course, Ontario Real Estate Association, St. Lawrence College and Queen’s University. He has written and been a frequent guest lecturer and panelist for LSO, Ontario Bar Association (“OBA”), Canadian Bar Association and Frontenac Law Association, all in which he maintains membership. Bob has been elected to the Governing Council of the OBA, has twice served on its Board of Directors and has served many years on the Executive of the OBA’s Real Property Section.
In our community, Bob is currently a provincially appointed Commissioner for the St. Lawrence Parks Commission and sits on the Board of Directors for Hospice Kingston and the Kingston Symphony Association, being the current Vice-President of the latter. He was the last Chair of the Foundation at Queen’s University at Kingston and a Member of University Council from 2008-2014. He is a former President and Treasurer of the Kingston Family Y.M.C.A. Bob is a life member of the Rideau Trail Association.
