International Women’s Day #BreakTheBias

Posted March 8, 2022 Category: News & Updates

At Cunningham Swan, we are lucky to have so many remarkable and talented women on our team and in our community.

On International Women’s Day (IWD), we want to formally acknowledge and thank them for their invaluable contributions to our collective success. Whether you are a team member, a client, or a local business – we would not be the same firm that we are now without your involvement and support. This is something that we understand every day – not just on March 8th.

The 2022 IWD theme is #BreakTheBias. Whether it is deliberate or unconscious, bias has placed limitations on women across the world, oftentimes hindering their ability to move forward. Together, we must continuously strive towards a world free of bias, discrimination, and stereotypes. We must imagine a world where our differences are celebrated and respected. IWD stands to remind women everywhere that their accomplishments are worthy of acknowledgment, elevation, and support.

We spoke to a few of the incredible women on our team and asked how they #BreakTheBias. Some common thoughts? Speaking up, starting hard conversations, and continuing to listen.

“I will break the bias by having more discussions about gender bias, discrimination, and stereotypes.”

“I will break the bias by correcting those who automatically assume I am anything other than counsel on the file.”

“I will break the bias by continuing to support women from all walks of life and by doing everything I can to elevate them- regardless of their role. You don’t need to be the CEO to earn respect and support.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we stand together to lift each other up, celebrate how far we have come, and reinforce our commitment to breaking the bias. We cannot thank you enough.
