New OHSA Training Requirements

A new regulation under the Occupational Health and Safety Act will impose new training requirements on all employers, regardless of the number of employees.  Under this new regulation, all workers and supervisors will be required to undergo health and safety training. There are also record keeping requirements for the employer.  The requirements in this regulation come into force on July 1, 2014 so employers should take action now to ensure their employees are compliant.

The training requirements can be met by having workers and supervisors complete workbooks or an e-learning module that are available free of charge from the Ministry of Labour.

Once workers and supervisors complete the e-learning module, there is a certificate available to be printed.  Employers should keep copies of this certificate for record keeping purposes.

The workbooks are also available on the Ministry of Labour website. The workbooks contain a series of questions that workers and supervisors can fill out as they read through the document.  Again, for record keeping purposes, copies of these completed workbooks should be maintained by the employers.

For more information on these training requirements, please contact any member of our Labour & Employment group.
