In last week’s blog I wrote about our South East Ontario Municipal Seminar and provided a link to the presentation slides on Expropriation by Municipalities.
I thought it would also be useful to link to the slides relating our Planning Law Update.
During the presentation we discussed Bill 73 and the proposed Smart Growth for Our Communities Act. Goals and purposes of the Act include giving residents more say in how their communities grow; giving municipalities more independence to make local decisions; setting out clear rules for land use planning; and making it easier to resolve disputes. Bill 73 was referred to the legislature’s Standing Committee on Social Policy on September 29, 2015 and remains with the committee for consideration.
In the Planning Law Update we also discussed regulation of docks, hunting camps, and other structures on provincial Crown lands. Certainly of interest to many people across Southeastern Ontario as the fall hunting season comes to an end.
