James McCarthy is an Associate in our Municipal Law group.
James attended the University of Ottawa where he took the majority of his undergraduate courses in French and spent one academic year on exchange at the University of Hong Kong. He then completed his law degree at McGill University, obtaining the B.C.L./LL.B, during which time he spent one semester on exchange at Maastrict University in the Netherlands, and participated in the McGill/Shantou program in Shantou, China. In 2017, James completed an LL.M. with a specialization in Political and Legal Thought at Queen’s University.
Raised in the Maritimes and in British Columbia, James returned to New Brunswick following law school where he spent a period directing education programs for an HIV/AIDS Charity in New Brunswick and later, articling with the Chief Justice of New Brunswick at the New Brunswick Court of Appeal. He was called to the bar in New Brunswick and Ontario in 2019.
When not in the office, James enjoys spending time with his partner and their husky, trying his hand at learning new languages, replaying some of the classic video games from his childhood, and running.
