Matthew Holmberg is a Counsel in our Litigation group. He acquired his LL.B. from Queen’s University in 1997 after obtaining a Criminology degree at the University of Ottawa in 1994.
This is Matthew’s second tenure with the firm, as he was an associate in the General Litigation Group from 2002-2007. Prior to his first term with Cunningham Swan he practiced law in Pembroke (his home town). In 2007 Matthew joined the Empire Life Insurance Company as its Senior Litigation Counsel, where he handled all litigation matters nationwide. Most recently Matthew served as an Associate Director within Queen’s University Athletics, where he was responsible for the overall direction and administration of the Athletics and Recreation service strategy.
Now back with Cunningham Swan, Matthew provides advice and direction to the firm’s clients who are considering a lawsuit or defending actions, across a broad spectrum of areas.
Matthew has also had a distinguished career as the Head Coach of the Queen’s Women’s Varsity Hockey team (2009 – 2023), leading the team to two Ontario (OUA) Championships (as well as 2 OUA Silver medals and 1 National Bronze). Matthew was named the OUA Coach of the Year three times.
Matthew shares a love for live music, travel, and golf with his wife and their daughter.
