Spencer Putnam is an Associate in our Municipal Law group. Spencer has been with the Firm since 2018, having articled and summered with the Firm before his call to the Bar in 2020.
Spencer provides advice and representation to municipalities, corporations, and individuals across Ontario in a variety of municipal matters, including:
- Land use planning
- Expropriations
- Provincial Offences Act proceedings
- Development charges
- Ontario Heritage Act appeals
- Municipal Elections Act matters
- Review and drafting of by-laws, agreements and policies
Spencer has represented clients before the Ontario Land Tribunal, Ontario Court of Justice, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Ontario Divisional Court, as well as before municipal councils.
Spencer received his J.D. from Queen’s University, where he was named to the Dean’s Honour List and awarded the course prize in Tax Law. Prior to law school, Spencer graduated with distinction from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Studies.
Spencer volunteers as a supervising lawyer with Pro Bono Students Canada and serves on the Boards of Directors of Youth Diversion and the Kingston Home Builders Association. Outside the office, he spends his time hiking and playing rugby.
